44 Steno ‐ Injection Injection technology for conservation and restoration of wooden objects KEYWORDS: Steno-injection, injection, consolidation, gluing, technology. Steno-Injection (SI) is a glue injection technology developed during my Master studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam in 2018. Applying this technology allows injecting undiluted adhesive through barely visible holes (up to 0,3 mm) in wooden objects, thus making it possible to stabilise complex structural joints and loose veneers with minimal intervention, even in visible areas and without disassembling the construction. The SI can be used in places where no injection was previously deliberated. Many objects no longer have to be disassembled but can simply be injected with glue in their assembled position. A portable device has been developed for the Steno-injection. It has a sturdy base, a telescopic stand with a carrying handle and a hinged injection head, which is connected to the device by a hydraulic hose. The device is operated with a foot pedal. Mounted on the injection head is a Luerlock cartridge filled with injection material (e.g., glue), which can be heated by an electric heater, which is part of the stand. This cartridge system ensures maximum flexibility and cleanliness while working. It makes it possible to use a variety of different materials in one operation. Today the SI is used in six restoration workshops in Europe. The experience shows that the SI can be used in the restoration of a variety of different objects and types of damage. For instance, the consolidation of veneer on furniture, consolidation of structural joints, Injection of putty and filling of cavities, consolidation of the veneer layer on the historic panel parquet and consolidation of modern laminate materials, such as plywood panel, blockboard, and chipboard. bemjiri[at] seznam.cz
